Bye Bye Oman
The evening we left Lilianne and Robert we had our last possibility to camp in Oman so we drove off to a quiet spot in the mountains, put up the tent and watched the sunset coloring the sky and mountains in shades of blue, red and violet whilst having our camp diner.
On the route back to our hotel we payed a visit to the Said bin Taimur Mosque which is one of the most beautiful designed mosques I’ve seen. The cream and earthy colored stones of this modern and stylish mosque with it’s many copper domes and elegant high minarets is a feast for your eyes. I believe it’s equally breathtaking inside but we were not to go there.
The day before leaving Oman we cycled past the old harbor to The National Museum where we spend a few hours.
In the afternoon we got two carton boxes to transport our bikes but one of them was too small so we wrapped one bike in plastic foil. Pedals off, saddle low, deflate the tires, steer parallel to the bike, wrap 3 kitchen rolls of 50meters (0,80 cents each) around the bike and Bob’s your uncle.
When we left for the airport we ran straight into a massive traffic jam which took us an extra 2 hours and stress. We love going to airports with our bikes and fly…Not!
Bye bye Oman with your rough and beautiful nature. Thank you Omanis, for your generosity, hospitality and friendliness. Thank you immigrant workers, for your gentle and amiable nature and for your lovely food which kept us pedaling. We hope to come back one day.
