Cycling through the stunning Phrygian Valley we were heading for Midas Han, a beautifully located hotel run by Dutch archeologist Ben Claassen and Turkish partner Nihal. The 2 story hotel with sunny veranda, comfortable rooms, camping possibilities, good kitchen and large garden calls for “the perfect escape”. It was a welcoming restful place for us from where we could explore the surrounding area with all its historic “Phrygian” sites. So nice to cycle around with no luggage as well, except some water and snacks.
We visited the nearby village of Yazilikaya where the Phrygians had an important religious centre called “Midas City”. Hopefully the photo’s do justice to this impressive area with its rock formations, caves and “churches” which have little resemblance to the churches as we know them.
