Along the way in Transylvania
Autumn is looking around the corner so we are heading down by train from Bukarest to Istanbul where we will spend a week before cycling on. Romania has a lot to offer for those who are interested in its history and its people. It is quite different than the previous countries we came through. There are Romani and Roma’s but also Hungarians and Sachsen, often living in their own cultural environment. We experienced cycling for hours and suddenly became aware most houses looked Hungarian or Sachsen. We saw villages with just a handful of people and four churches. We came through poor and run down villages but also places with good roads, houses, parks, shopping centre’s, sport fields and playgrounds. It will take some time to do up the “run down” places, particularly in Bucarest, but we believe Romania is on the way up.
We liked Transylvania with its people and rich culture so we hope to come back here one day.
